​​Meeting at Piano Provenzana – Etna North (Sicily). Boarding 4×4 off-road vehicles and, with the assistance of alpine/volcanological guides, departure towards the scenic road that winds among ancient craters and recent lava flows. The first stop will allow you to see the ruins of a hotel, the only visible structure among those destroyed by the lava flow of 27 October 2002. Continue towards the “Umberto and Margherita” craters, located at about 2,380 meters, where it is possible to do a short trek along the rim of these two huge extinct craters, where you can feel the full power of a nature that creates and destroys. After the visit, a short trekking route of about 15 minutes will take us to the Pizzi Deneri Meteorological Observatory at 2,850. You will be able to admire a spectacular panorama with views of the Aeolian Islands, the Ionian Coast from Syracuse to Taormina, the Gulf of Giardini Naxos and the Calabrian coasts. It is also possible to observe, from a distance and in complete safety, the summit craters that dominate the majestic Valle del Bove. Back on the vehicles, the next stop will be the eruptive area of the 27 October 2002 eruption with its characteristic buttonhole craters, with trekking on the flows walking along the crater rims. Reaching an altitude of about 2,050 m, it will be possible to enjoy the impressive view of the eruptive area and the lava flow that destroyed the tourist station of Piano Provenzana. This will be followed by a short descent along a sandy slope to the off-road vehicles available for the return to Piano Provenzana.

Notes:  The tour is suitable for everyone, including families with children.

The excursion is also possible for children over three years old. Recommended equipment: trekking shoes, windbreaker or down jacket. Boots/jacket rental available on site.
Not recommended for those suffering from particular conditions (cardiovascular, respiratory, hypertension)

Minibus transfer from Reggio Calabria/Villa San Giovanni and other Calabrian locations is available, on request and with a supplement to be calculated based on the number of participants. In this case, booking must be made only by phone.
